Back in the day these two ‘straight’ friends got together for a photo and video shoot in San Diego for a gay men’s website. Possibly they met while Marine boot camp and formed a bond there. Perhaps the shared time made them realize their own sexuality and their feelings for each other. We may never know. All we know is that they were meant to be together.

Obviously, this was before gay marriage was legal and in some states like Texas queer love was forbidden. I bring up Texas because that is where Juggalo is from. Juggalo is not his real name nor is Slammer (who claimed to be from the Mid-west) but those are the names that they chose to use for their brief modelling careers.

In the early 2000’s which sometimes seems like long ago – but it really isn’t – being gay wasn’t as accepted as it is now – we’ve come a long way. Slammer and Juggalo had to pretend that they were straight and definitely not gay. One way that they explored themselves was by auditioning for Queer photoshoots that would later appear on websites aimed at gay men. However, they were ‘straight’.

Not much is known about this gay couple afterwards. Many times guys would show up and do as instructed by the director and that would be that. Other times the same guys would appear on another site a few weeks later because they enjoyed the work so much. Or they just enjoyed being viewed by other gay men.

Hard to say what the motivation is. Some of them really were real Marines while others just pretended to be. Kinda a fantasy for the viewer or the subscriber to these types of websites.

Anyway, I will be reposting these photos along with the storyline. But I will also be imagining what really was going on behind the scenes. This is apart of queer history that should be shared.
