Skater Queer Boi ?
Back in 2002 Avril Lavigne came out with a punk type of song that she titled “Skater Boi”. It was huge hit and even jump started off her fledgling music career. The lyrics tell the sad romantic tale of a skateboarder – (skater boi). He had a crush on a girl in school but she rejected him because she was basically a snob.
Urban Dictionary defines a skater boi as:
“Wannabe male skater, term widely used by “townies”, “trendies” and all form of wannabe punks/posers. “
Are Dempsey and Keegan wannabes ? It is doubtful. They are definitely not posers. As far as the hit song goes this gay couple are only in love with each other. The snobby girl in the song wouldn’t matter to them anyway. She wouldn’t stand a chance.
Dempsey & Keegan Gay Skater Lovers
Not much is said about Queer or LGBTQ Skateboarders. Surely they must exist beyond this couple of lovers.
Brian Anderson came out in 2016. He revealed last December – that him and his partner have been married now for 5 years.
Its good that some progress has been made for the queer community. Good that lovers like this particular couple can not be afraid to be themselves.
No doubt that being a gay male in a sport like skateboarding must have its challenges. Let alone being a queer couple. Thankfully times have changed but there is still a lot of work to do.
LGBTQ Love
Gay lovers Dempsey and Keegan met while skateboarding in San Diego. They knew they had chemistry right from the start while watching each others moves at the skatepark. Eventually, they started getting together in the alley ways and that is where their romance began.
Hopefully, their relationship will set couple goals for others in the LGBTQ community. But really they are just happy and they both admit they are lucky to have found each other. In such an unlikely place !
