Jack & Love Lovers
The neon glow of the Vapor Play arcade cast the room in vibrant, pulsing shades of magenta and cyan. Outside the panoramic window, a synthetic synthwave sun dipped beneath a digital skyline. Leo took a well-deserved breather, sitting squarely on his skateboard against the cool speckled floor. A loose plaid tie hung around his bare neck, the playful remnant of a long, hot summer night spent trying to beat impossible records.
Standing beside him was Jack, looking like a retro action hero. Jack’s broad chest was bare, a silver dog tag resting against his collarbone, his heavy boots and cargo pants planting him firmly. He rested one hand on the Cyber Skate cabinet, looking down at Leo with a soft, affectionate smile that made Leo’s pulse race faster than a high-score countdown.
“You done losing?” Jack teased, his voice a low rumble beneath the synthesized chiptune music.
Leo just smirked, looking up through his dark lashes. “Just catching my breath.”
Game of Romance
Jack shifted his weight, the teasing fading from his expression, quickly replaced by a quiet intensity. He reached out, his large, warm hand gently tracing the line of Leo’s shoulder. The sudden intimacy immediately drowned out the flashing pink Game Over signs illuminating the aisles.
Moving gracefully, Leo stood up, his sturdy boots finding the familiar grip tape of his board to bring him just a fraction closer to Jack’s towering height. Jack certainly did not hesitate. He wrapped his thick arms around Leo, pulling him flush against his chest. Leo sighed, wrapping his own arms around Jack’s waist as Jack rested his bearded chin on top of Leo’s dark hair, holding him in a deeply protective, grounding embrace.
The noisy, crowded arcade completely faded away. Jack pulled back just enough to tilt Leo’s chin up, his thumb brushing a soft path over his strong jaw. When their lips finally met, it was a slow, bruisingly tender kiss that tasted of cheap cola and electric anticipation. Surrounded by the buzzing nostalgia of retro machines and flickering CRT screens, they held each other close, anchored in the endless, beautiful neon glow.
